In 2005, Matt and I met at an NCT antenatal class
we were attending prior to the birth of our first
children. Eager to be modern, involved dads, we
were hoping to learn how best to support our wives
through labour and be hands-on dads from day 1.
The classes went well, we thought we were
prepared, and then reality struck with a vengeance.
Our experiences of birth, and those early days with
a newborn, made us realise just how little we knew.
We also became aware that despite the wide
availability of antenatal classes and baby websites,
there was scant information purely for dads and even
less discussion about dad’s feelings. So after much
talk, we decided to take the plunge and set up a
website to address this and to help other dads out
there.
By day, I’m an IT Project Manager and Matt is a
solicitor. By night, we’re web developers, html
coders, authors, forum moderators, marketers…
you get the picture! The site has been up and
running since mid 2007 and was re-launched at the
Excel Baby Show in 2008 with a professionally
designed logo and new forum.
Feedback so far has been really positive and we’re
getting some healthy debate on the forum. So, if
nothing else, we’ve at least managed to get dads
and dads-to-be talking!
