Should you get a dummy or not? 4 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 1
I have read that these are beneficial and aid breathing. I have also read that they are a nightmare to get your kid off if they do get used to one. Any body have a bit of advice on this please?

dont know about other guys, but we started off with a dummy when our one was brand new and had the insesent sucking action. But after about three months we weened them off, far easier than letting them keep it and then having the temper tantrums when you try to remove it later.

We started using one initially to get through the grumpy first weeks, but found he was getting dependent on it so we weaned him off of it this week (wk 10). Much better without for us but everyone is different.

We thought that we'd be parents who would never resort to a dummy - oh no, not us. Then you're faced with a screaming baby who won't go back to sleep. It's 3am. You're knackered. A dummy doesn't seem so bad at that point, to be honest!
We did wean them off the dummy at about 4 months or so and it really wasn't too bad.
Every baby is different though, so you need to work out what's best for you and yours.

Our kids are 5 yo, 3 yo and 14 months and none have had a dummy. I think we did buy one at two crisis times (!) but none of them have been interested in using one.
Our eldest sucks his thumb, but the others weren't interested in that either.
