Our Review:

A cool 1/28th scale corvette  radio control car that is fully customisable with body kits, lighting and performance upgrades, every guys, sorry boys dream.

The whole point of the XMODS range of RC cars is that they represent cars from the street racing and modding scene scaled down in to miniature. With various cosmetic and performance upgrades available from XMODS and OEM manufacturers it is easy to build something unique.

The generation 1 or gen 1 XMODS chassis is available with the following body types:

1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V.spec

1997 Toyota Supra

2000 Honda Civic Si Coupe

2003 Honda Integra

2004 Honda NSX

2004 Nissan 350Z

2003 Chevrolet Corvette C5

1967 Chevrolet Camaro

1965 Ford Mustang coupe

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

2004 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

Our favourite is obviously the Corvette body as it’s the one we are reviewing, however the Gen 1 chassis is identical for all of the bodies, so the choice is yours.

Out of the box the car comes in its standard guise, which is ok to get you going around the front room or driveway. But its not going to be long before you are going to want to start modding and upgrading it, so lets look at some mods.

Looks wise, I would invest in a body kit, lights, alloy wheels and an under car lighting kit:

XMODS - XMT539 Command Logic Ground Effects Lighting Kit Image

XMODS - XMT536 Aluminium Wheel Upgrade Image

Your car is now looking uber cool, with skirts, splitters and a strange green glow coming from underneath,  but to be honest it is going to be driving pants, the speed is ok but that turning circle is horrendous. Don’t fret, now time for some performance upgrades, suspension, tires, 4 x 4 conversion and a ball bearing kit:

The above will help out with the performance, the bearings making everything run smoother, steering, suspension and tyres will sharpen up the handling, and all wheel drive will improve traction and handling. But we now need to sort out that steering! There is no official XMODS upgrade for this, but the tight turns kits are readily available from specialist XMODS suppliers and e-bay. The kit consists of two resistors that you will need to solder in to place on the servo. This is a 5 min job, but you will need to be able to use a soldering iron. After adding this, the car will have really tight turning circle and change the whole driving experience.

These cars have a huge following, and If you look at some of the specialist websites out there or trawl through e-bay, you will find a whole host of additional upgrades; Stage 2 motors, lithium ion battery replacements, drifting kits and pretty much all of the plastic parts can be upgraded to aluminium, but unless you are racing, its probably not worth the expense.

The Gen 1 xmods are readily available, and in conclusion I would say that out of the box the standard car is good, but the whole point is the modifications, which are addictive. Hours spent tuning and fettling your ride with the upgrades is really what these cars are all about.

For anyone without the space to run a full size RC car, that likes to tinker and add upgrades, these cars are a great buy and I would recommend them highly.
