The Review

When I was given the pillow to try out and review, I thought it looked very fun and was an attractive animal shape with animal pictures on the material. It was very different from the basic, beige, curved pillow that I currently use and was soft but had good structure to hold its shape.  I did have some concerns about the practicality of the white background on the patterned material, but decided to try my best to keep it clean.

The legs on the cushion fit snugly round my waist whilst breastfeeding, although sometimes it worked its way out from under my baby as the distance between its legs isn’t quite as wide as me.  However, it is the right width for my 7 month old to use as a support cushion for sitting up as not only does it help him keep his balance but it also offers a nice soft landing if he happens to topple backwards or sideways.

My concerns about the white background on the patterned material came to light when my baby was sick all down himself, me and the cushion.  It was one of those moments that most parents can relate to when you wonder what to do first.  Where do I start with this massive clean up? After changing and cleaning up baby and me, I took the cover off the cushion and was pleased that it hadn’t soaked into the cushion due to some kind of water resistance coating on the actual pillow.  So a quick wipe down fixed that.  Then I checked the label on the cover and it said ‘machine wash’, but unusually had no temperature guideline, so I just rinsed it through in the bathroom as that seemed the most sensible thing to do at the time.

Unfortunately the colours in the design ran and I’d only used warm water, so that was very disappointing.  The packaging that the cushion came in says ‘Free Floppeze cover worth £9.95’ if you send away for it, you just need to pay £4.95 postage and packing. The pillow costs £26.95 so getting another cover for under a fiver is pretty good idea.  I certainly wished I’d had one when I needed to wash mine.

There are some lovely touches too like the tail, ears and eyes that make it more loveable, but I did think of more things they could have added including textured or crinkley ears and a teether on the end of the tail.  Though these would of course add more to the cost and wouldn’t be ideal if you wanted to use it for sleeping.

All in all I think it is a very good nursing cushion, with the exception of the colours running on the cover.  The packaging suggests other uses for it such as ‘burping pillow, laying pillow, travelling/booster pillow, sleeping pillow, and convalescing/lap pillow’, though I would imagine that the main reason anyone would buy this pillow would be for breast/bottle feeding.  The fact that it has many other uses makes it better value for money and useful to have around for the first few years of your child’s life.
